Drawn from our extensive experience in performing HRSG inspections and performance assessments, the HRSG Inspection Planning Guide provides plant personnel with concise and practical guidance for planning and executing HRSG inspections. The objective is to give the inspector the means to effectively identify current problem areas, recognize damage mechanisms and to focus inspection efforts as a function of the plant operating history. The following areas are covered :

  • Reasons for Inspecting (included survey of statutory requirements in USA & EU)
  • Planning and Preparing for the Inspection
  • Overview of Main Causes of Damage
  • Survey of Inspection Techniques (standard and special purpose)
  • Case Studies from Actual Field Inspections by Tetra Engineering

Effective approaches for identifying high-risk locations are discussed for major pressure part damage mechanisms including superheaters/reheaters, evaporators and economizers, feedwater pre-heaters and external feedwater piping. The guide also covers structural supports (hangers and tube bundle restraints), supplemental firing systems, SCR and ammonia injection grids, CO catalysts as well as insulation and casing components.

As a companion to our popular HRSG Tube Failure Diagnostic Guide the HRSG Inspection Planning Guide adopts a similar approach with use of flow charts, punch lists of important factors that affect inspection planning and informative case histories.

The 2nd edition is updated with additional valuable information drawn from the numerous field inspections performed by Tetra Engineering staff on horizontal and vertical gas path HRSGs since the last edition was released. There is expanded coverage on inspecting drums and deaerators, additional material on failure modes and mechanisms, more information relating to inspections of vertical gas path units and added case studies from field inspections.
